To be released in January 2027, ST-R8071 is an updated version of ST-R8070.
Technically this is actually ST-R8170, but with different firmware so that it works with 11-speed Di2. It does not work with 12-speed Di2.
(according to the 5.4.6 compatibility info by Shimano).
Since it's essentially a 12-speed wireless shifter, it has a LED, a hood button, one SD300 port, one SD300 satellite shifter port, and a battery compartment.
Note: while it has a battery holder, it does not actually take battery. The Shimano documentation states you should not insert batteries or even open the battery holder.
Most riders seem to set up the hood buttons to change pages on their head unit, or to change synchronized shifting mode. You need a wireless module in order to control your head unit or bike computer.
I wrote an article on setting up the buttons on your shifter hoods, so go ahead and read that if'd like to learn how to do that.
The R8071 shifters support hydraulic disc brakes and feature one e-tube SD300 port, and one sprint shifter port. The compatible satellite shifters are SW-RS801 -S / -T / -E.
And yes, because they have an SD300 port, you can't just connect them to 11-speed Di2 right away. You need the EW-AD305 adapter to convert from SD300 to SD50.
