Compatibility warning: none of the 7970 series components will work with other generation Di2 components. The plug is different and simply won't fit.
The FD-7970 was Shimano's very first Di2 Front Derailleur. It is attached to the frame using a braze-on mount or one of the clamp bands (SM-AD79MS for 28.6/31.8mm seat tubes or SM-AD79L for larger 34.9mm tubes), supports top gear teeth of 50-56T and will work with a road standard 43.5mm chain line.
